Webinar series: Foundations of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)


PHESC is holding two foundational webinars for people who are:

  • New to CQI
  • Looking to understand key concepts as part of an introduction to the subject
  • Not yet enrolled in a 2-day certification course (such as HQO’s Ideas or OPHA or OHA’s yellow belt)

 

The presenters for both webinars are Nicole Stefanovici and Melody Roberts. Nicole is the Continuous Quality Improvement and Education Advisor wIth Niagara Region Public Health and Emergency Services. She is Co-Lead for the Ontario CQI Locally Driven Collaborative Project. Melody has a Masters’ certificate Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt from the Schulich School of Business at York University and is President of Innovation for Health Impact Inc.  She works with organizations to build capacity in continuous quality improvement, knowledge mobilization and strategy. Previously she initiated and managed an enterprise process improvement unit as well as a capacity building unit at Public Health Ontario.

After this session the learner will understand and be able to articulate and distinguish the differences between:

  • quality assurance and continuous quality improvement 
  • process improvement and process management vs results management 
  • lean and six sigma as process improvement methodologies 
  • the PDSA or Shewhart cycle as the basis for CQI, and standards as a basis for accreditation and quality assurance. 
  • understand the context, terminology development, and current work underway through Ontario's CQI locally driven collaborative project.

After this session, the learner will be able to:

  • dispel process improvement myths
  • see how process design makes work repeatable and improve-able
  • articulate attributes of a good process as well as key process concepts
  • distinguish the difference between process maps (work flow diagrams), value stream maps and standards of work (work instructions)
  • provide local examples to understand the state-of-the-art of process improvement practice through case study examples.
  • understand the current work underway to document process improvement practices in Ontario health units.

Webinaire: Clarifier les rôles de la santé publique pour la promotion de la santé mentale et du mieux-être mental des populations | Webinar: Discussing Public Health Roles in Population Mental Health and Wellness Promotion


Ce webinaire, présenté par le Centre de collaboration nationale sur les politiques publiques et la santé (CCNPPS) en partenariat avec Santé publique Sudbury et districts, offrira un aperçu général des rôles de la santé publique pour la promotion de la santé mentale et du mieux-être mental des populations. Les participants découvriront le contexte dans lequel les Centres de collaboration nationale en santé publique ont été amenés à clarifier les rôles de la santé publique en promotion de la santé mentale et du mieux-être mental des populations, ainsi que les processus ayant mené à cette clarification. Un aperçu général des rôles identifiés sera partagé. Enfin, un exemple concret d'intégration d'une perspective de santé mentale des populations dans la pratique de santé publique sera proposé.

  In this webinar, co-presented by the National Collaborating Centre for Healthy Public Policy (NCCHPP) and Public Health Sudbury & Districts, presenters will discuss a general overview of the roles of public health in population mental health and wellness promotion and will present an example of integration of a population mental health perspective in public health practice. Participants will learn about the context in which the National Collaborating Centres for Public Health have become involved in clarifying the roles of public health in population mental health and wellness promotion. They will learn about the processes which led to this clarification. A general overview of these roles will be discussed. Finally, an example of integration of a population mental health perspective in public health practice will be presented.

Dans ce webinaire, une vision des principaux enjeux éthiques de l’intelligence artificielle, dont la question délicate de l’autonomie, sera d’abord présentée par Dominic Martin. Ensuite, les enjeux spécifiques au milieu de la santé mentale seront abordés par Carl Mörch. L’exemple de la prévention du suicide sera utilisé pour illustrer le type de défis rencontrés. Pour terminer, les deux conférenciers présenteront des moyens de renforcer la présence de l’éthique dans l’utilisation de l’intelligence artificielle, particulièrement en santé mentale.
